This disease affects your central vision due to degeneration of the central part of the retina called the Macula. Damage from Macular Degeneration may be hard to perceive it its early stages, and many patients initially do not have any symptoms. As the disease progresses patients start to notice distortion in their eyesight, and a slow loss of vision central vision. Over time if the condition continues to progress it will lead to blank spots in a patients central vision and eventually can lead to blindness if not detected and left untreated. The doctors at Advanced Vision Institute can evaluate your eyes for early signs of Macular Degeneration, where they will be looking for biological waste products in the retina known as Drusen.
